Overview

The main goal of this project is to design and test an Environmental Control System (ECS) for a 6U CubeSat, enabling plant research in space by sustaining, monitoring, and regulating critical growth factors to advance our understanding of extraterrestrial agriculture and contributing to establishing robust crop harvesting in space.

Community Benefit

As humanity expands into space, developing sustainable and scalable food production systems is essential to support long-term habitation. Traditional farming methods are unsuited to space environments due to challenges such as microgravity, radiation, and limited available space. While the International Space Station (ISS) facilitates plant research, its capacity is constrained by logistical and spatial limitations. This project aims to design and build a modular 6U CubeSat platform tailored for automated plant research in space conditions. Our system addresses the need for a compact, isolated, and scalable plant research system to expand the range and amount of experimental data collection.
