Cleveland Clinic Florida offers medical students 2 different routes for doing research. Option (1)- summer research done between M1+M2 year with dedicated time to research of up to a max of 40 hours a week for 8 weeks. The students can apply for research with Lorna Lewis, ask for specific specialties and she will try to find them projects and physicians to work with. Option (2)- this is done with students who previously participated in summer research who wish to return or who wish to continue working on an unfinished project after the summer. Research is to be done during the student’s white space or free time that has been approved by both the school and Cleveland Clinic. Once a student has completed the 8 weeks of dedicated time, they will be allowed to work on the project during their white space time longitudinally. However, no student will be permitted to work on research unless they have completed the dedicated 8 weeks to a project first. Please do not reach out to directly to the physicians, please go through the contact Lorna Lewis.

The fellowship aims to expose students who belong to historically underrepresented racial or ethnic groups, or those with disabilities to the breadth of career opportunities in psychiatry. Since 2017, we expanded this effort to include a summer research track. Students will be assigned to work with a research mentor while gaining broad exposure to a wide range of research opportunities in psychiatry. This year, the program will provide a stipend of $5,600 for the 8‐week research program.
